While we were getting ready for the Pimpstar X Monster Energy party on saturday, team Schubert Motorsport were down at the International GT Open in Barcelona (ES) on CIRCUIT DE CATALUNYA.
Same track on which they won the 24H BARCELONA in september 2011.
A race they led almost for the entire duration of the 24 hours and completed 669 laps at the 4.655 kilometres long Circuit de Catalunya, establishing a new record distance in the endurance event for GT3, touring cars and 24H specials.
This weekend however Lars Stugemo (SE) und Stefan Landmann (AT) drove the BMW Z4 GT3 with number #75 on the door.
Saturday was a tough day for the team. Team manager Stefan Wendl says in an interview posted on the teams website: “Saturday is a day we’d rather just forget. Due to a problem with the setup we weren’t as fast as we expected.”
I had a chat with one of the drivers who explains:
“The car didn’t behave the way we wanted it to on saturday. But once we figured out what was wrong with the tires and setup, the team fixed it and we had a superb car for the race on Sunday”.
This meant the team had to settle for 13:th place in the first race on saturday.
Sunday, when most of you were at home curing hangovers after the party, Car #75 from Schubert Motorsport started from 21:st place on the grid.
“We had to make many close calls throughout the weekend. Fast cars and hot drivers makes for an interesting race. On sunday it started to rain about an hour and a half before race but then suddenly stopped 15 minutes before start, so we had to make a quick decision on which tires to start. We managed to get the car through the race without any bigger incidents and finished fourth in class and twelfth total.”
Landmann also managed to set the second fastest lap of the race in a GT3 car.
We’re honoured by the opportunity to be a part of International GT Open in Barcelona on CIRCUIT DE CATALUNYA with team Schubert Motorsport and we will of course bring you more pics and videos of the badasss carbon BMW Z4 GT3.
